| Yesterday: four hours at the hairdresser, with a very patient alice. results? straight hair! Today: day off! all lessons canceled because lewis and his father are going fishing in a friends boat. Its quite rough at sea today, anything can happen. Perhaps they will catch a big atlantic salmon, or perhaps a smoked one. either will be mmmmmmmmm. History: forgot to to mention when alice was at the hospital, i met an ex mandarin teacher from beijing who had offered to tutor me in mandarin. at first i was hopeful and excited but as the days passed, i had started to think that perhaps it had just been friendly chit chat. i felt a little embarrassed to call her, and she hadn't called me. However yesterday, she called me to ask me if i had called her! I hadn't. She mentioned that she had been away for a few days, and that she was quite free to meet up with me. As our conversation was done in Cantonese i had thought that she would like us to exchange languages (Mandarin for English) However she said that that's not what she wanted. Rather that she had recently found some teaching material from her friend to help her teach me how to write and speak english. And she doesn't want to be paid, !!!! I really thank God for this opportunity to learn mandarin, because i used to dream of one day going to China to work. so this opportunity to learn mandarin now is in a way keeping that dream alive. My first lesson is today at 10.30am, in MacDonalds. | | |
| On Friday, at about 10am, i had closed the bathroom door, heard alice scream ran out and saw poor alice lying on the floor holding onto her finger. one of alice's finger had gotten caught and the whole nail had fallen off. alice was screaming and i was screaming. i had never seen so much blood. and i didn't know how to comfort her. i didn 't even want to look at her finger because i could see that it was partially hanging off. fortunately lewis's father was home. and had quickly put something on alice's finger. i then picked up alice and we ran to the doctor's clinic. when the nurse there said she couldn't help us, we ran to the hospital. Alice was admitted to emergency, had x'rays and we were told she would need General Anaesthetic and surgery to repair her nail bed. fortunately her finger bone was not broken. And fortuanately the kind doctor told us after the operation that her nail would grow back normally. The first three pictures were taken at the hospital. just 2 hours after the incident and before the operation.
The next picture was taken after the operation whilst alice was still sleeping.
after her operation, dinner and long nap, she was back to her smily playful self. | | |
| These last two weeks i hadn't worked and it was so nice. now i'm back to work and that's also nice. yesterday i bought alice some skates, and she loves them so much. they are designed for three and above (she's barely 2 and a half) so i have to put her shoes into the skates before it can fit her. After only half an hour of practice, she could get up from the ground by herself and walk/skate across the room. Then last night at the supermarket she didn't want me to buy anything, because she wanted my hands to be free so that i could hold her hand whilst she practiced jumping in her skates! last night she wore them to the restaurant, and to the supermarket, to the MTR station and back home. lewis thinks she is a little young for skating, but i think she's enjoying them alot. she has so little fear! i'm surprised.
last week we went to alice's friend's house and here's a picture of their little bath together!
Alice's drawing. I like this drawing. it looks like a face to me. our sleeping beauty.
